His funeral will be on Monday, July 3, 2017 at am at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City, Ms Phillip Nolan Dixon, Sr, 86, of Benton, Mississippi, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a long fought battle with cancer June 30, 2017. He was married to Louise Stricklin of Yazoo City for nearly 66 years and they had two sons, Phil and Mark.
One of seven children, he was born on October 31, 1930, in Yazoo County to the late James N. He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church for many years as well as First Baptist Church in Yazoo City. He always planted a large garden that would produce enough vegetables to give to his family and share with his friends .
Survivors are her son; Randy (Shurley Rae) Hearst of Benton, sisters-in-law; Amy Martin of Bentonia & Kathryn Broom of Benton, and a host of nieces and nephews. Hearst was preceded in death by her husband; Randolph Hearst, her parents; J. & Mildred Kinnison Martin, and brother Joe Danny Martin. They had 3 children; Thomas “Tim” Sligh, Freddie Sligh, and Coy Sligh. June started her career at King’s Daughters Hospital Yazoo City where she worked 36 years before retiring from the Business Administration Department. She dedicated her life to raising her four children; Dorothy (Robert) Oliver of Benton, Sandra (Steve) Meyerhein of Rio Rancho, NM, George Fuller of Yazoo City, & John (Phoebe) Fuller of Clinton, 6 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Lecester & Bessie Massey Osborne, brothers; Allen & Marcus Osborne. He later worked for Marathon Oil Company and eventually retired from oilfield production.
Services will be held at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Friday August 11th with visitation starting at A. He retired from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics following a lucrative career in law enforcement, which was his true passion. Adams was employed by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office, the Pascagoula Police Reserves, Bellaire Texas Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Adams had an unwavering assurance that God was the forefront of his existence. His strong belief in Christ was evident through both his words and his actions. Adams was an extraordinary role model to younger generations and was his absolute happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved.
